Kassie was born and raised in Pinellas County, FL. She attended private school from K-8, then attended Pinellas Park High School in the Criminal Justice Academy. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in English Education.
Kassie began her professional career teaching at her alma mater, Pinellas Park High School, in the First Responders’ Magnet Program where she taught English 1 (Honors, Regular, and Plus) and Reading 1. During her third year of teaching, she also taught Newspaper for PPHS’s Powder Horn Press. Kassie spent her last year teaching at Pinellas Secondary School, the 6-12 alternative school in Pinellas County for reassigned students. At PSS, she taught English 1, Reading 2, and English 3.
During Kassie’s second year of teaching, she felt constrained by county mandates that kept her from teaching. She felt that, although she was making a difference in some students’ individual lives, she was struggling to make changes to the education system and curriculum. She wanted to move on to something more challenging where she could make an impact on a larger scale. She applied and was accepted to Stetson University College of Law. She is currently in the Social Justice Advocacy concentration offer at Stetson and will graduate in May, 2019.
The 2017-2018 school year was Kassie’s first year not teaching. With her husband starting his career, she thought she could focus on taking daytime classes at Stetson that helped her with her Social Justice Advocacy requirements. She found herself missing every aspect of teaching that she loved; the students, learning, planning, and purpose. Even after starting at a law firm as a law clerk, she still longed for making an impact on students’ lives.
Kassie filed for her candidacy on Monday, November 20, 2017. She needs 3,360 signatures to get onto the ballot by May 21, 2018. Please help her achieve this goal. For more information on Kassie’s campaign, explore the pages on this website.
