County-wide assessments can be an effective way to give teachers workable data to inform their lessons and teacher-made assessments. Many times, these assessments have flaws that lead to confusion, frustration, and failure.
In Pasco County, the Quarterly assessments, though made with teacher input, have formatting problems that lead to incorrect answers. This leads students to fail the tests due to no fault of their own. These constant failures, which are felt across the county and across all students, can lead students to feelings of inadequacy and frustration that hurt their overall school engagement and achievement.
